NASA Moon Bombing LCROSS Mission – Watch Rocket Moon Explosion

Yesterday we reported that NASA is bombing the Moon in order to see if there really is water on the Moon and how much is it. This is part of the LCROSS mission and an Centaur Atlas 5 rocket will crash into the Cabeus Crater at 5,600 mph. The Cabeus Crater is situated at the Moon’s south pole which hasn’t seen sunlight since hundreds of years therefore it must be water there that hasn’t been dried by the Sun.
The moon explosion will occur today at 7:31AM ET or 4:31AM PDT. NASA Moon bombing doesn’t mean that the Moon will split in half or that it will change its orbit. It will be very interesting to see, and this doesn’t happen all the time. It’s true that meteorites hit the Moon regularly, but it’s not like NASA is broadcasting this every day. When the Moon rocket will hit the Selene surface, it will create a 30-mile high plume and the LCROSS spacecraft will gather details of what it’s in it.
If you want to watch NASA blowing up the Moon live then you can head over to NASA TV here as the event will be broadcast live.
Also you can go to major observatories across the country and the list of public events to watch the LCROSS mission can be found here.
The last place where you can watch NASA Moon bombing is Slooh, which provides free live Telescope Feeds of the LCROSS mission.
I’m gathering as much popcorn as I can now cause the event starts in a couple of hours so you should do the same.
